Indian Knowledge Systems

Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent a vast intellectual tradition that spans across various disciplines, including language, philosophy, science, research methodology etc. Unlike the compartmentalized structure of modern academia, IKS promotes an integrated and holistic approach to knowledge construction and dissemination. With the implementation of NEP 2020, the significance of IKS in academic discourse has gained momentum, encouraging interdisciplinary research. Even this is reflected in the gesture of UGC introducing a new subject titled IKS for the NET exam. By incorporating IKS into modern research methodologies, scholars can develop more structured and reader-friendly academic writing and enhance research quality across disciplines. This approach ensures that Indian intellectual traditions contribute meaningfully to global academia in interdisciplinary teaching and research, reinforcing India’s role in the evolving academic world. IKS can bridge the gap between indigenous wisdom and contemporary academic practices, offering a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

The major projects undertaken by the department are ‘Modelling Indian Research Methodology: Approaches and Implications’ and ‘A Scientific Interpretation of Ayurvedic References in Sanskrit literature’.
